Opera (1987)

When it comes to the Italian giallo films of the 70’s and 80’s, one thing is certain, they’re an embarrassment of riches. There are so many in the genre, made by many different directors, that chances are you could watch one a day for six months and never see the same one twice.

One of the truly best giallo, and horror directors for that matter, is the amazing Dario Argento. Opera was inspired by his own experience directing an opera version of Macbeth that was a disaster.

It turns out that a opera house is a great setting for a giallo. It provides a combination of countless back rooms and hallways that are out of sight, but it also has the giant stage and house in which everything can happen out in the open. Either way you're vulnerable.

If you like your horror movies grand, yet realistic, we can't recommend Opera enough. Few Blu-Rays of it were made but we have a used copy available if you're interested.
